Pastors​

Revs. Adam and Catherine Tobey met while earning their MDIVs at Princeton Theological Seminary, and have spent the last decade serving people of all ages through educational, congregational, and outdoor ministries. Adam also holds a Master of Arts in Christian Education and Formation, with an emphasis on ministry with young people, and Catherine is nearly finished with her PhD in Divinity, with an emphasis on ethics. The couple live near Whitworth University (Catherine's alma mater), with their two young kids, Danielle and Cassian, and rambunctious puppy, Robin Hood.

Office Administrator

Cate Wetherald earned a Bachelor of Arts from PC(USA) Lyon College where she double majored in communications and English with a minor in theatre. She earned a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from Gonzaga University, with additional graduate-level coursework in Teaching English as a Second Language. She is also a trained spiritual director having completed two years of coursework. She served as Director of Communication for the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane before being hired by Bethany Presbyterian Church in 2018.

Cate creates and distributes our worship materials for Sundays, holidays, funerals, and special occasions. She creates our e-newsletter, church directory, and our annual report. She answers the church phone, replies to texts and emails, manages our website and social media, schedules Zoom meetings, and provides general administrative support to the pastor and other leaders.
She works full-time at 30 hours per week. Friday and Saturday are her days off. Email Cate at office@bethanyspokane.org

Pianist

David enjoys an active career as a pianist, music director, and conductor in the greater Spokane area.
He holds the degrees of Master of Arts in Music (Washington State University, 2008) and Bachelor of Arts in Music (Whitworth University, 2006). In 2007 he participated in the Bösendorfer International Piano Academy in Vienna, Austria.

In addition to his work as a collaborative pianist with Chorale Coeur d’Alene, David has also appeared with the Spokane Symphony Chorale, Spokane Chorale Artists, and Spokane Kantorei Choir. David is on the Advisory Council for the Idaho Central Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center, scheduled to open in summer 2024, and serves as music director and conductor for Spokane Valley Summer Theatre’s summer programming as well as its Big Band Christmas shows.

As a pianist, David has toured throughout the United States and Canada with Irish tenor Michael Londra as part of his Celtic Fire and Ireland with Michael tours. Aside from his career as a musician, David enjoys skiing, cycling, cooking, and being “Dada” to Fiona and Rowan.
Session
The session governs a particular congregation, and functions in many ways like the Board of Directors of other non-profit organizations. It is made up of elders elected for specific terms of service elected by the congregation, along with

The session is responsible for all decisions regarding the program and policies of the congregation, including leadership, governance, spiritual discernment, discipline, and ecumenical relationships.

Deacons
Deacons embody acts of care, compassion, and service. While they often undertake ministries of feeding, visitation, prayer, and hospitality, they can also fulfill other acts of service within the church and its surrounding community.

Our Deacons serve members of Bethany Presbyterian with care and compassion. This includes helping to set up and distribute communion and checking in on members regularly by phone/email, organizing items needed for members as needed, and mailing cards to members for special occasions, sympathy, etc.

Treasurer
Kris Cjeka serves as our Treasurer, and is in charge of keeping records of Bethany's finances. The Treasurer is responsible to and supervised by the session.
