Rebuilding

A two-alarm fire started about four hours after our worship service ended the afternoon of Epiphany Sunday, January 2nd, 2022. The fire was out by around 7PM. Fortunately, no one was injured. βThe Spokane Fire Department has determined that the cause of the fire was an "overloaded circuit resulting in a malfunction" on the chancel in the sanctuary.

While a typical rebuild project for a worshiping congregation would be to simply redesign a church building, over the past few years we have built partnerships with a number of community organizations. Today, we are working closely with Proclaim Liberty and Widmeyer Corp, who already developed and manage Liberty Park Community Development. Our property will soon boast apartments, called Bethany Village, for refugee, immigrant, and low-income families. This will include a community gathering space, called Bethany Commons, which will serve residents of Bethany Village and the wider community - and provide a place for Bethany Presbyterian Church to worship.
ββIn September of 2025, we held a land dedication ceremony which was attended by about 70 people. Guests included LaRae Wiley of the Colville Confederated Tribes, bagpiper Kenyon Fields, Presbytery Missional Expeditor Katie Stark, a representative from the office of Governor Bob Ferguson, and Spokane City Council President Betsy Wilkerson who pledged to attend the first worship service in our new worship space.
Architectural drawings are complete, the contractor is ready to go, and the final pieces of funding are coming together. We expect construction to start Summer of 2026!
